New Zealand Diploma in Sport, Recreation and Exercise (Multi Sector) (English/Mandarin) (Level 5)

Entry Requirements:

Students aged 14 or older, both junior and senior high school students or above are eligible to apply

When making an application to enter this programme of study students must:

ü  Have a certain foundation in sports

ü  Passionate about golf

ü  Willing to keep learning this sport

 

Learning Objectives:

This programme has been specifically designed by the IGQ College to assist students

who have an interest in pursuing careers related to the golf industry. While the

programme has a focus on the game of golf, students will acquire knowledge and skills

that will enable them to also work in other sport, recreation and exercise endeavours.

 

Duration of Study: 1 Year (full time)

 

Delivery Languages: The program is delivered in both English and Mandarin

 

Learning Content:

Golfing Skills 、Personal Management Skills、Introduction to the Teaching/Coaching of Golf、Event Planning and Management etc.

 

 

Graduates will be able to:

* Integrate knowledge, concepts and trends across the sport, recreation and exercise

industries to inform professional practice.

* Plan, monitor and role model safe, ethical and professional practices and

procedures for self, others and organization while operating within sport, recreation

and/or exercise environments.

* Lead and manage a range of tasks and activities within their own scope of practice

to achieve sport, recreation and exercise outcomes for individuals, groups and/or

communities.

* Supervise others to ensure safe, ethical and professional practice and procedures

in sport, recreation and/or exercise settings.

* Apply concepts and theories of exercise science to develop health and wellness

solutions to meet the needs of individuals, groups and/or communities.

* Develop, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of a range of sport, recreation and/or

exercise activities, programmes and /or events to meet the needs of individuals,

groups and/or communities.

 

Future Pathways:

Career Path

Graduates can continually pursue a career development in professional golf, qualifying as PGA tour players, or PGA coaches, and take up core positions such as professional golf coaches and professional tournament players.

Further Study Path

Upon completion of this programme, eligible learners can directly articulate to the New Zealand Professional Golfers Association (NZPGA) Traineeship Program; if they do not plan to specialize in the golf industry, they can pursue upgrading to bachelor programs related to sport, recreation and exercise, including sports coaching, program management, outdoor education, sport business management and other directions of their interest.

Employment Opportunities

Golf-related positions: professional tournament players, golf coaches, caddies, club administrators, promotion specialists, golf shop managers, sports equipment sales representatives, etc.;

Pan-sports field positions: event managers, sports coordinators, sports academy operations, sports team management, sports and recreation center managers, etc.
